7 steps towards a happier you

Ever wonder few good habits can make you walk the aisle of happiness?

I am a wanderer, restless, person who is in continuous search of finding the other, the better, the happier side of me. I promised myself that this year (2012), I will take care of myself at the highest priority. This is my bit ……

Follow these 7 steps to lead a happy, satisfied life.

7 Steps to a happier you

Step 1 : Sleep .

We have our jobs to do , we have our social life to manage and we also have our family to give some time to. I always try but fail to do all that stuff in 16 hours a day; if I save 8 hours of sleep. So when I am scrambling to meet all these demands, it’s too casual of me to cut down my savings and spend them on never ending to-do lists.

Whatever, you do. Whenever you manage to do. Please DO sleep on time and for at least – 8 hours. I am no doctor who can explain you the benefits/power of sleep or be able to aware you about sleeping disorders; but can request you to think twice on your sleeping habits. Even minimal sleep loss takes a toll on your mood, energy, efficiency, conscious and ability to handle stress.

How frequently you charge your smart phones?

Step 2 : Punctuality

My work is my elixir and punctuality is one of its parameter. Try to be organized and be on time. The more you give respect to time the more you will be stress free. And while working in a service industry, you can imagine the demons of deadlines and meetings.

My mom always tell me since my childhood , to do things on time otherwise I will forget (short term memory loss 🙂 ), don’t have any clue what’s the source but I still follow this. Organize your work and prioritize it, believe me you won’t forgot those small notes , files ,no missing attachments in e-mails , and interestingly not even your lunch.

Remember, Intime , when time is currency.

Step 3 : Music

Let me clarify to all those, who don’t skip any chance to scold me when I listen loud music with earphones on (oh by the way they are always on , even now!) I know it may lead to health issues. Music helps me to focus, and freshen up, inspires me and sometimes it’s the only thing that gives me a company when I am alone. Music is Sanity.

So let me rephrase – Music is the secret of my energy.

Step 4: Walk

I love it and those who know me can swear on my stamina. Walk few steps for your life. They will give you the time you always wanted for yourself. Even doctors say walk 10,000 steps a day are actually steps to a healthier life. For my lazy days, I take bus no 11 to get back to my place.

A walk to , remember !!

Step 5: Show gratitude

Thank you”. You may have no idea what these two words can do to someone , your kind words of appreciation can make their day , give them a new hope , make them smile.

Recall the vedio of “Kuch to hua hai” from Kal Ho Na Ho.

Thank you all for being with me till here , I am left with only 2 steps now 🙂

Step 6 : Strangers

Gone are the days when they say, don’t interact with strangers. We have twitter now. A simple # (Shift + 3, simple isn’t) can connect you to the ‘strangers’ with similar concerns. Be honest, don’t you like when someone from other part of the world retweet (RT) yours or reach you with a solution? Similar with facebook likes and shares.

Try coming out of this virtual world and interact strangers in real. Helping someone with the route, crossing the road or to park the car will surely bring a smile on their face as well as yours.

Some sort of my inner gratification.

Step 7: Peace

Have you ever thought of spending few minutes with yourself? Peace is something we all long for. I am NOT advocating listening music, or reading a book or watching a television, by peace I mean do nothing and relax silently.

For me late nights are wonderfully tranquil.  No phone calls, no interruptions. I like the feeling of knowing that nobody is trying to reach me at that hour.

Inner peace will bring the positive vibe to keep you happy as long as you wish !

Stay Happy,

Saakshi

The Quest of the Sparrows

English: Book cover for the book The Quest of ...

Image via Wikipedia

It was some 5 hour journey during the day today with un-limited questions fighting in my mind and few medical reports and co-incidentally bank statement; which gives mirror image of my present state. I am frustrated and annoyed with myself. I am doing a bit for myself and lives a happy serene life , but at times (this comes at a frequency of 6 months) feel unstable and very string vibes of something missing.

Just trying to distract myself , I bought a book to read while traveling. Never knew reading just 20 pages will calm me down .

Thought I should share some excerpts with you. It could have been a  sin , if I choose to keep it with myself.

Book – The Quest of the Sparrows

Authors – Kartik Sharma & Ravi ‘Nirmal’ Sharma

We live in times when media is the king. It’s only interested in financial figure, records and achievements. Spirituality isn’t an object of desire, or even in the headlines; still, you are here. I bow to your spirit, which believes in what no one has seen and marches to a destination that appears to be even harder to achieve than the biggest material goal.

Most human beings search for eternal happiness. Yet, why is it elusive? Most people fail to achieve it by following idealism, spiritualism, capitalism, materialism, socialism or other-isms. Why do they meet disillusionment?

Why does a sparrow, which knows no “-isms”, live without the worries which accompany human beings? What is it we manage throughout our complex lives? Merely survival. Hey, something is wrong – because the bird does the same, effortlessly. So what’s the big difference between us and the helpless sparrow? Don’t you think we’re missing something? What is it?

Forget the sparrow for a moment. Think of all the people in this world. They go to their workplaces in the morning and then return in the evening, like swinging pendulums. But does a pendulum swing aimlessly away and towards the centre? Or does it personify something more , like time? That depends on what you associate with life? Is it aimless or does it have a higher purpose? Like pendulum, it swings between two states – birth and death. What gives it meaning? Can anyone answer ?

The divine . One answer , could be . But that’s a lofty ideal for us beginners. Think of something more practical. Look around you; is everything the same as it was a century ago? What has happened in all these years?

Evolution. Probably ,another answer. Yes . Between birth and death is evolving. That’s the higher meaning of our lives. But what do most people do ? They achieve, lose, feel happy or sad, celebrate and mourn. They merely move to and fro like a ball of a pendulum, with hardly any peace. Even among believers, everyone is religious but very few are truly spiritual. Is it all linked or unrelated? Think over it. Find the connection, and I think we will be able to solve the riddle of life.

Stay Blessed,

Saakshi

5 types of men , women don’t like

Hi ,

Earlier I posted 5 types of women , men don’t like on new year eve (though I did find that on TOI website) , here is a follow-up to that. I believe , it’s an answer to men who irrationally categorize women.

Women , pull up your sleeves, here is our turn to corner men in 5 broad categories, that we HATE. Hope they will listen and learn.

Disclaimer : Nothing personal , no hard feelings for anyone 🙂 this is just a general view . Simply not my perspective !!

5 Types of men women hate

There might be ample qualities that make men irresistible. But women being the fairer sex have created certain stereotypes in men that they would never want to be seen with.

We list the most common kinds of men that women love to hate…

1. Thumbs down to dominant men : Gone are the days when a male dominated society used to be the way of life. So, if the next time you try to show your superiority in front of your girl, it might land you in a tight spot. Women prefer mates who’re recognized by their peers for their skills, abilities, and achievements – and not those who use coercive tactics to subordinate their rivals, reveals a new study.

2. Macho guys aren’t always lucky : A macho guy with an angry young man personality might look good on silver screen, but when it comes to real life, women aren’t game to hang around with macho dudes. A recent study claims that macho guys don’t always get the girls. The study further revealed that the most aggressive guys ended up with fewer wives and children.

3. Keep sex starved men at bay : Men are usually sexually more charged up. But when it comes to choosing a mate, women don’t opt for a sexually ravenous partner. This is maybe because for such men, sex is the top priority in the relationship whereas the woman continuously seeks love and romance, sans physical intimacy.

4. Chauvinism is out completely : Remember Bobby Deol’s chauvinistic character in Dostana, which was enough to drive his lady nuts. An excess of anything is bad. Women don’t find a chauvinistic man a great companion to spend the rest of their lives with.

5. Using slangs won’t take you anywhere : Using abusive lingo every time you indulge in a conversation might lend you a cool dude look cool in front of your male peers, but girls don’t want to hang around with a abusive man. Being too abusive and stressing on using slangs too often is a ‘turn off’ for today’s women.

So , ladies out there , what you say ?

Think , Spread, Aware , Discuss and Enjoy !!

Love yourself

Hey Guys and pretty gals !

Whatz up ?

February has come, and has brought along the season of love ❤ , love is in the air …isn’t it ? Radio is playing only love songs, websites are flashing dating tips and valentine ideas. Markets are decorated with colors of red, heart shaped balloons are sold on every traffic signal.

It’s all mushy – mushy feelings inside every young heart. Want to dress up nicely, look your best, struggling to find one perfect gift, filtering love songs for a romantic playlist, planning romantic getaways or that elusive date. Just love and happiness all around. Icing on the cake , end of season sale is still on ( 🙂 ). Dil to bacha hai jee ….

So why is it, that out of 12 months we feel February to be the most romantic. We have 365 days in a year , but we celebrate 14th of Feb as the Day of Love. Oh man, all we ever want is LOVE, then why do we celebrate this for just one day.

Ah ! Well I am not the person to answer this; rather I should not be doing so. Valentine day is for the people who are in love, and I assume I am (at present) in love with this random hobby of writing. If I look at my blog stats I am celebrating it once in a week (for a novice, its fair enough).

Winters are always looked upon, thanks to poets, as a sad, rude, and blue, with cold emotions. Somehow I can relate to it. Long term illness (struggling with allergic dry cough for more than 70 days is tough, trust me !) and few unfavorable unexpected situations made me little unfocused and burn out this winters. I am tired and want to be back. This sadness and the feeling of despair is ruining me, need a break now.  I took a short break from writing, just to avoid spreading sadness. Though all this time I felt blessed with the love you have shown and bestowed me with positive energy. I love all the comments (on blog), they are fantastic. Thanks for your support.

Spring is the season of love, full of hopes, colors and youthfulness. It’s the perfect time to pull up my socks and wake up the ‘why not’ or ‘let’s do it’ side of me (I am so missing that).

I am helping myself and have started doing the things I always love to do.

1.       Cooking

I am a foodie. Loves to cook, serve and eat. Due to cough was avoiding standing in kitchen and then scared with the very thought of doing the dishes with freezing water. This season, will experiment on some continental dishes.

 2.       Reading

Someone suggested few books , to help me find the answer to ‘who I am , what I am doing …. Bla bla ‘ . And Voila….Shantaram is in my hand , these days.

3.       Music

Enrique Iglesias, I love you. I am listening all those sexy – dulicit tones again and again. As you Enrique say ‘I will survive’, I will.

4.       Dance

Wish to dance like a free bird and put my heart out. It’s soothing, relaxing and a great workout. ( I just don’t like gym environment). Who knows I may give Sheila, Munni , Chameli , Jalebi bai ,  a decent competition … LOL !!

I am a Punjabi , bring it on those racing heartbeats,  dhol beats , give me some adrenaline rush.

5.       Freak out

This is the February, the most happening month. I am going to enjoy all the romantic movies, going out for long walks, nice 🙂 dinners. You never know when cupid strikes? 😉

6.       Believe in my self and Love myself

Ah ! can’t help this , I am my favourite. A little madness in the spring is a wholesome goodness for this fair maiden!!!!
Let’s  see what this season holds for me .

What about you guys , what are your valentine day plans 😉  !!

Love,

Saakshi

Anger is one short of Danger

To ‘ one’  world, I am better known as rude, harsh, cold, stubborn, hard headed, short tempered snobbish lady. For them, may be, I am. Frustrations, anger and irritations are the demons, which surround me (not sure, us) and haunt me (At least, yes, to me) time to time.

Once upon a time on one fine day, which was not like just another day , I was suffering from anger , due to some unexpected conversations with a  good (I mean it) friend. I realized, somehow, through the screaming in my mind, that even in midst of such sentimental attack;  I was still free ; free to hate the things that hurt me;  free to disconnect the phone and acknowledge my anger;  free to louder the music (free – for the matter of fact my neighbors are out for holidays)  and just dance like a emotion-free , stress-free, tiredness-free mad girl. I am still free to hate the moments that were torturing me, or to forgive me.

It doesn’t sound like much!

I know.

But in the flinch and bite of the solitude (hate to call, loneliness) , (self) locked in the confines of a small room , echoes of highway midnight traffic , what’s all I have got is freedom. I read this somewhere; freedom is like, universe of possibilities.

I am not that kind of person who can talk at length about negativity (they give me a sick feeling). Rather, I am the kind of person who in spite being red hot in anger will think of possibilities to come out with a little more than the wiser and calmer me, there should be (has to be) some gain out of it.

If you search on anger management on internet, you will find a very long list of remedies. Drinking lots of water, meditation, taking a nap, talking/yelling to/at a friend, maintain a silence, count till ten, deep breathes etc etc. Perhaps they may work or even may not, like in my case, nothing like this, I believe one has to find out the fixtures on their own (they depend person to person, affinity to affinity).

Below are the remedies for anger control, which I follow.

( Note: Please don’t blindly follow them, think before you do.)

1.       Dance

Take away points – Burn calories, Toned body , major stress relief for calmer and focused me.

Losing points – You can try this if and only if you are at home and music volume should be convenient to neighbors.

2.       Walk to the nearest mall.

Take away points – Everybody knows the benefits of walking. I mention walking to the nearest mall for those who are shopaholics. Every time I visit any shopping mall, I get to listen Enrique Iglesias (hearing him is always soothing).

Losing points – Keep the minimum amount of cash with you and please leave cards at home.

3.       Shop

The moment you have read the word ‘shop’ you have imagined yourself with bags full of clothes, footwear, accessories etc. Stop those imaginary horses there only. When in anger, you have have to shop smarty. Otherwise your pockets/credit card bills will make sure to provide you another shot of anger.

Take away points – Shop for groceries , bed linens , books , music…chances are there would be little wastage and they will be in use for long. For bed linen, I can anytime gift them.

Losing Points – If the anger meter is at alarming rate, skip shopping and enjoy movie.

4.       Write

Take away points – Twitter , Facebook , Blogs, Personal documents describe a groundbreaker and game changer. I can never let myself down.

Losing Points – In anger or in whatever scenario, don’t ever, disrespect/abuse/spread bad word for the cause of anger. Every coin has two sides, respect that.

5.       Interact

Take away points –I Interact to enrich my social network of peers, colleagues, even my competitors. My willingness to listen and learn (Running away from the reason, why I am so upset) from all the people I interact, help me to be a better person.

Losing Points – Mind your words and tone.

Earlier in my teenage and early 20 days (again, guessing my age !! bad idea) I used to break things, at times yell in a screaming-itchy-irky  tone and have a compulsive eating disorder. With anger I was in danger.

Now, with a bit of life experience and a blessed happening life (frequent in –out) I have learnt this in a hard way that anger is one short of danger. And I am happy to announce I have found my , one short.

Keep Cool,

Saakshi

5 types of women , men don’t like

I just can’t help myself doing the sinful job of Ctrl + C , Ctrl+ V and then posting this article for you all to read.

I am amused/shocked to read this article in Times of India and thought of sharing with you. I do agree with the stuff but still not fully convinced. My woman ego can justify few things that are simply wrapped in shady covers and presented negatively.

Go through the article below and please let me know your view points (you never know how many women (may include me) along with men in their life would be blessed !!)

5 types of women , men can’t stand

Here is the lowdown on the personality types men don’t like at all.

Cribber: Women who crib, talk negatively and belittle people are a great turn-off. Sure we all have our bags full of complaints, but it is one thing to complain once in a while, and it’s something else to crib big time 24×7 about every issue or every person one comes across. Men can’t understand why a woman has to crib and bitch all the time. Either you do something about the issue or stop complaining – it’s as simple as that.

Weight-watcher: ‘Oh can’t have beer, it has 150 calories’, ‘I must hit the gym everyday’ – if these are your favourite catchwords, you have trouble coming your way. There is only so much diet, exercise regimens men can take and if you are too conscious, a man is likely to be exasperated. Women need to know when to give in ‘without throwing their weight around’!

In-law basher: Agreed only the fortunate are blessed with a good set of in-laws. So if you are not one of the lucky ones, will you constantly bash them up verbally? They are somebody’s parents and if you don’t have anything nice to say something about them, don’t say anything. How does that sound?

Worker bee: If you are buzzing nineteen to a dozen only about the presentations you have to make for the boss, deadlines, colleagues, HR head and the office janitor – it’s obvious you have nothing else to talk about. A man may want to know about your interests, your views on him, and more, but you prefer to hide behind ‘work’ all the time. If you want a man, any man actually – get a life first.

Agony aunt: There are some women who constantly feel they are an ‘advisory body’. They feel it is their business to hear out the whines of everyone around them and suggest suitable solutions. They are so deeply involved in this part-time job that they inadvertently sound like they are advising you as well. Nobody wants to date a mom, you know.

waiting for your views …….

Embracing the new

Sometimes people come into our life and we have a hitch that they were meant to be there, to serve some purpose, teach us a lesson, or to help figure out who we want to become. We never know who these people may be. May be a long-lost friend ‘friends’ via Facebook , or a stranger who seems to be always in a hurry each morning standing at the bus stop. But when we notice them, we know that very moment they will affect us in some profound way.

People we met and share success and downfall with, help to create who we are and we want to become.

Strange isn’t it?

When they love, they embrace us, when they hurt or betray, they teach us the importance of trust and hard meaning of being cautious. A moment of love, affection, and care make us calm, composed and confident. It fills our days with joy and happiness. A betrayal makes us cold, frustrated and shocked.

We humans are very sensitive yet we say we are strong and move on easily, knowing deep down that our emotions are fragile. Now, how we know that? We feel compelled to stay on a rigid pre – chosen path for our lives, even if we don’t want to. And why is it so? It revolves around our reclusiveness (which we generously say ‘self defense’), or simply we are afraid to experience something different from our routine.

Embracing the new in life is not about making unwise risks, but about taking chances for the quality of our lives. The new may not bring fame and fortune, but happiness we were longing for.

I read somewhere that people are like onions. Onions!!! Every now and then we have to peel off a layer to reveal a new facet of theirs’ , just to mention with every layer comes the tears , more importantly it adds a critical flavor to everything you do , if you do bad it will stink. Peeling an onion symbolizes new beginnings, afraid of tears but revealing a fresh new skin, ready to take onthe world!!

PS: Give every man thy ear but few thy voice. – Shakespeare.
